The Beautiful Game: A Journey Through the Digital Pitch of FIFA

Football, soccer, the beautiful game – call it what you will, its magic transcends borders and languages. But for millions across the globe, the joy of football extends beyond the green field, spilling onto the virtual pitch of the FIFA video game series. More than just a game, FIFA has become a cultural phenomenon, a digital arena where dreams are crafted, skills are honed, and rivalries are born.

From its humble beginnings as a pixelated kickabout in 1993, FIFA has evolved into a breathtaking spectacle of athleticism and artistry. Every new iteration pushes the boundaries of realism, capturing the electrifying atmosphere of packed stadiums, the delicate touch of world-renowned players, and the heart-stopping drama of last-minute goals. With each virtual kick of the ball, FIFA whisks you away to the heart of the action, transforming you from a spectator to a maestro, orchestrating your team to glory.

FIFA is no longer a football game

But FIFA’s brilliance lies not just in its technical prowess. It’s the tapestry of stories woven within its code. The underdog rising from the ranks, the teenager blossoming into a superstar, the team of friends conquering the online world – these narratives unfold with each controller vibration, each pixelated roar of the crowd. The game becomes a canvas, and the players, both digital and human, the artists, etching their triumphs and defeats onto the digital pitch.

Yet, FIFA is more than just individual glory. It’s a testament to the power of community. Millions connect online, banding together under the banners of their favorite clubs, forging friendships and rivalries that transcend the digital realm. From coordinated tiki-taka passing moves to nail-biting penalty shootouts, the shared experience of virtual competition binds players together in a global footballing fraternity.

Of course, no FIFA journey is complete without its fair share of controversies. Errant referees, dodgy physics, and online lag can turn a passionate gamer into a red-faced rage monster. But even these quirks contribute to the game’s unique charm. They become shared battle scars, war stories whispered within online lobbies, adding a layer of human imperfection to the otherwise polished digital world.

Ultimately, FIFA is a love letter to the beautiful game. It captures the essence of football’s raw emotion, its breathtaking skill, and its unifying power. It’s a playground where anyone can be Messi, Maradona, or even your local park legend. So, whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a wide-eyed rookie, step onto the virtual pitch, raise your controller aloft, and prepare to be swept away by the magic of FIFA. Remember, it’s not just a game – it’s a journey, a community, and a testament to the universal language of the beautiful game.

Indonesia Dominates Southeast Asia, Most Games Released on Steam

It’s really cool, Indonesia dominates Southeast Asia, as the country with the most games released on Steam. So far, there have been 256 titles that have visited the platform made by Valve.

Quoted by GameStation from X/Twitter Virtual SEAsia, Thursday (11/1/2024), Indonesia has always filled this top position over the past few years. If you look at the brief data shared by Kris Antoni, Founder and CEO of Toge Productions, it turns out that since 2019 local games in Indonesia have been leading.

Even the number of games launched each year has quite a difference, when compared to countries in Southeast Asia. The countries in question are Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Brunei.

Continuing, in second place is Thailand which is experiencing rapid growth. They managed to catch up with Singapore, which usually overshadows Indonesia every year, regarding the release of games on Steam.

A total of 158 indie games have been released in Thailand. Meanwhile, Singapore is in third place with a total of 134 games they have presented.

The following is a detailed ranking of countries in Southeast Asia whose games are released on Steam:

1.Indonesia – 256 games

2.Thailand – 158 games

3.Singapore – 134 games

4.Philippines – 92 games

5.Malaysia – 80 games

6.Vietnam – 40 games

7.Brunei – 7 games

8.Myanmar – 5 games

Unfortunately, Virtual SEA does not provide information about Indonesia’s ranking outside Southeast Asia. Maybe because their focus is only on collecting data on indie games in this region.

Even so, of course this is proof that the gaming industry in the country is growing. Plus various achievements that have been obtained by local game studios.

In 2023, local games entitled A Space for the Unbound by Mojiken, Rendezvous by Pendopo Creations, and Unplug by Goldlime Studios won awards at Level Up KL.

For A Space for the Unbound, it successfully won the Best Story Telling title. Unplug won in the Audience Choice Award category. Lastly, Rendezvous won two awards at once, namely the Grand Jury Award and Best Visual Art categories.

Ouch, Game Engine Unity Company Will Lay Off 1,800 Employees

The wave of layoffs in the gaming industry continues. This time the sad news came again from Unity.

The game engine company will reportedly send home 1,800 of its workers. That number is around 25 percent of its total employees, quoted by Game Station from Reuters, Wednesday (10/1/2023).

This is the largest layoff in history that Unity has ever experienced. They hope that the dismissal process can be completed by the end of March 2024.

“We are reducing the number of things we do to focus on our core business and drive long-term success and profitability,” interim CEO Jim Whitehurst wrote in an internal memo sent to all employees on January 8.

But here Whitehurst does not provide specific details regarding the structural changes that will occur in Unity. Only a company spokesperson confirmed that there will indeed be updates in the future.

Yes, Whitehurst is the new CEO of Unity, after the previous John Ricetello decided to resign. This was done after the new policy issue which was protested by many game developers around the world.

The root of the problem lies in the new payment scheme which uses a pay per download system. In this scheme, Unity will charge fees for using the game engine based on the number of game installations, and it is said that this concept will be implemented on January 1, 2024.

As additional information, this is the fourth round of layoffs carried out by the company. More than 1,100 people were laid off in 2023, preceded by at least 200 layoffs in June 2022.

These latest layoffs continue a bad trend in the video game industry, which saw around six thousand jobs lost by 2023. It doesn’t look like things will get any better in 2024.

The 2023 Holiday Sale actually took place from December 13th. Well, here Epic Games is holding it for approximately 29 days, which ends on January 10 2024.

Of course, this is encouraging news, because gamers can find a variety of cool games at quite large price cuts. Some of them, such as Hogwarts Legacy, get a 40 percent discount.

Epic Games doesn’t want to be outdone by Steam, which gives huge discounts

Then there is God of War which is priced at IDR 364,500, from the initial price of IDR 729 thousand. Apart from that, the game by Insomniac, namely Spider-Man Remastered, is also discounted by 40 percent, bringing the selling price to IDR 527,400 from IDR 879 thousand.

There are still many quality games that are getting discounts. As a reference, you can check the list below.

Who knows, maybe you might be interested in bringing him in. But keep in mind, the prices listed below are after discounts.

Alan Wake 2 – Rp. 456,400

Dead Island 2 – Rp. 395,400

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – Rp. 379,500

Assassins Creed Mirage – Rp. 405,300

This is a list of PlayStation games that are selling well on PC

Even though Sony has never revealed data regarding PlayStation games that have been remastered for PC, it was recently revealed that these games are selling well on PC.

This information comes from leaked data that spread as a result of the ransomware attack on Insomniac Games. Of the 1TB of data spread around, one of them is the financial report of the game developer who is part of PlayStation Studios.

From one of the presentation slides distributed, it was revealed that the game, which was previously exclusive to PlayStation, also had successful sales when it was re-released on PC.

For example, Horizon Zero Dawn, which was released for PC in August 2020, or three years after it was first released for PlayStation. As of February 2023, the game has sold 3.3 million copies on Steam. That’s quite big for a game that is three years old.

What If All The Games Of PS, Can Be Play In PC ?

Then there is Days Gone which was brought to PC in May 2021 and God of War which was released on PC in January 2022. As of February 2023, the two games have sold 1.7 million copies and 2.5 million copies respectively.

It was also revealed that Spider-Man Remastered almost caught up with Days Gone’s sales in just six months. However, this is certainly not strange, because the Spider-Man game series has sold 33 million copies on PlayStation (and Days Gone only 5.8 million copies).

But of course there are also game series that were not successful when re-released on PC. For example, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which sold less than 500 thousand copies. In fact, Sackboy only sold 63 thousand copies.

The weak sales of this series of games can be caused by many factors. For example, some of them are not very well known and the market preference is to wait for the presence of exclusive AAA games. For example, Gran Turismo will probably explode if it is re-released for PC.

Feeling lied to by developers, gamers give negative reviews to The Day Before

The Day Before’s gameplay did not live up to promises, making many gamers feel lied to and negative reviews rained down. It even went straight into the list of the worst Steam games.

It first appeared on December 7, 2023. Present as early access, it turns out it didn’t give a sense of satisfaction to those who played it.

The Day Before gathered more than 30 thousand gamers, who played simultaneously. But after finding out that what Fntastic was offering as the developer was not suitable, the number of players dropped drastically.

Of course this makes many fans angry. Many of them gave very poor ratings, and called the developer a fraud.

“The biggest fraud in the history of gaming,” expressed the frustration of a gamer in the review column.

“This is the biggest failure in gaming history, and I’m happy to be at the forefront of this disaster,” continued another gamer.

Game Station monitoring from various sources including the official page on Steam, Friday (15/12/2023), it was recorded that only 15% gave positive reviews, out of a total of 21,495 people who recorded their analysis. To the extent that The Day Before received the title Overwhelmingly Negative.

What’s worse, after releasing The Day Before, a few days later the company said it would stop operating. This means they are officially closed here.

“Today we are announcing the closure of Fntastic Studio. Unfortunately, The Day Before failed financially, and we lacked the funds to continue it,” said Fntastic.

Suddenly this news became a hot topic among gamers. Not a few people make fun of it and make it a joke. One of them came from Pash***** who said something like this, “Fntastic released The Day Before and closed down The Day After,” he wrote.

Even so, the company admitted that it did not take any money from purchasing the new game. Fntastic said gamers can get a refund.

“Mytona (publisher) and we are currently working with Steam to allow refunds for any player who chooses to request one, regardless of game time,” Fntastic said.
