Funny! Hot Dog Themed Nintendo Switch Controller

Hyperkin, a video games manufacturing and distributor company from the United States, has once again made a cute and unique game controller. In collaboration with a food company, they created a Hot Dog themed Nintendo Switch controller design.

Previously, Hyperkin had made many game controllers with attractive designs from food brands such as Kraft Mac & Cheese, Heinz, Oscar Mayer, Kool-Aid, and Sriracha.

Reporting from Gizmochina, Wednesday (31/1/2024) the Nintendo Switch controller has a transparent body that is reminiscent of the old N64 controller, featuring red and yellow colors and the addition of curved lines as ‘sauce’ which are the characteristics of Hot Dog food.

Previously, Hyperkin has produced Tetris and Miraculous Ladybug themed controllers, but this is their first foray into the culinary sector. Unfortunately, for fans of multiple consoles, this delicious controller is made only for Switch, PC, and mobile gaming. They are not planned for Xbox or PlayStation compatibility.

For those who like a mix of food and fun, this controller offers a new way to spice up your gaming to make it fun and exciting.

The month of January is quite memorable for gamers. Several new games have been released and can be said to have interesting gameplay. For example, there are Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Tekken 8, and Palworld.

The Most Watched Game Trailer Isn’t GTA VI, But This Game

The GTA VI trailer which was recently released has indeed succeeded in attracting gamers’ attention. However, even though the number of viewers gathered is so large, in fact the video made by Rockstar is still inferior to the popularity of mobile games.

If you visit the Rockstar Games YouTube channel now, you can see the trailer for the latest GTA series, which has been watched 168 million times. This number is enough to overthrow the Minecraft trailer which was released 12 years ago.

Mojang as the developer of Minecraft, through its one minute video, has currently succeeded in getting 167 million views. But at that time it only placed it in second place, as the most watched video game trailer.

Unfortunately Rockstar is still not halfway there, to beat the most watched game trailer which was successfully snatched by Subway Surfers. Published in 2012, the trailer has been watched more than 361 million times, as quoted by Game Station from IGN, Thursday (18/1/2024).

Even so, it looks like the GTA VI trailer still has a big chance of winning the title. Because this game will only be officially released in 2025. Maybe when it actually launches, this opportunity can be realized.

Moreover, gamers are very enthusiastic about this new Rockstar game. Because after many rumors circulated, they finally confirmed that they would bring him in.

Meanwhile, Take-Two Interactive, which is in charge of publishing it, said that when it is released, GTA VI will not be available on PC. So gamers can only play it on PS5, Xbox Series

Series of layoffs in the gaming industry that will occur in early 2024

The storm of employee layoffs in the gaming industry apparently will not subside in 2023. The extreme cycle is still continuing, even starting in early 2024.

Several well-known companies were forced to start the new year with bad news. Not a few of those involved in this industry have had to lay off their employment.

The number of people who have been laid off is very large. To the point that some will lay off 1,800 workers.

So what company is meant? The following is the list, as compiled by Game Station from Kotaku, Tuesday (16/1/2024).

List of Companies Carrying Out Layoffs

The following are eight gaming companies that have laid off workers. Until this news was written, at least more than 2,700 people were fired.

1. Archiact

On January 4, the first company to announce employee layoffs came from Archiact. However, they did not specify how many people had been expelled.

“We are working with these individuals to offset this difficult transition as much as possible, including through reverse recruiting,” Archiact said.

2. Bossa Studios

Actually, technically the layoffs occurred at the end of 2023, only they were only reported and confirmed on January 5 2024. Here they laid off 19 workers.

3. Unity

This game engine company just announced on January 8 that they would lay off 1,800 workers. That means Unity is cutting 25% of its staff.

It could be said that these layoffs are the largest in the company’s history. They said the employee layoffs would be completed next March.

4. Twitch

After Unity, Twitch also revealed that it was preparing to lay off 500 employees on January 9. The company will do this at the end of January.

That means they will lose about 35% of their workers. However, it turns out that Twitch previously carried out layoffs in March and October 2023.

5. Playtika

On January 11 2024, the publisher and developer of this mobile game plans to fire 400 employees. This amount is equivalent to 10% of the company’s total workforce.

Playtika previously laid off 900 employees in 2022. But after that, the company instead poured USD 300 million or around IDR 4.6 trillion to acquire Innplay Labs in 2023.

6. Discord

At the same time, Discord also reported that it would send home 17 percent of its total staff. That number is estimated to be around 170 employees.

Discord CEO Jason Citron said in an internal memo that layoffs were necessary to make Discord more efficient, after excessive hiring in 2020.

7. Lost Boys Interactive

Apart from that, Lost Boy Intractive also laid off its employees. However, they did not provide details on how many people were fired.

“It seems like most of Lost Boys Interactive was laid off today, myself included,” wrote Jared Pace, a producer at the studio on Linkedin.

8. Funselector

Canadian game studio, Funslektor, announced that three of its developers have been laid off. These three are the great people behind the creation of the Art of Rally game.

PUBG Mobile Will Collaborate with Hunter x Hunter?

Speculation regarding a potential collaboration between PUBG Mobile and the Hunter x Hunter anime in early 2024 is currently being widely discussed in the gaming community.

Even though there has been no official announcement from PUBG Mobile, several PUBG Mobile influencers and casters in Indonesia have provided clues regarding the possibility of this rumor. Apart from that, there is also a lot of video content circulating on various digital platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Game Station news portal and YouTube which increasingly convinces the PUBG Mobile community of this collaboration.

Hunter x Hunter fans are very excited to see their favorite characters appear and be played in PUBGM in-game activities. The prospect of playing as an iconic character from this anime series has generated enthusiasm among fans.

Of course, this is not the first time PUBGM has collaborated with a popular Japanese anime title. Previously, PUBG Mobile had collaborated with Evangelion, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Dragon Ball. Big screen shows such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Godzilla Vs Kong have also joined the world of PUBG Mobile.

Drawing parallels with previous successful collaborations in the anime realm, it is hoped that PUBGM will introduce characters from Hunter x Hunter to the game. The biggest question is which characters will appear in the PUBGM game? Speculation points to key figures such as Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio, all of whom are important in the plot of the Hunter x Hunter anime.

Although this collaboration has not been officially confirmed, the prospect of combining the dynamic gameplay of PUBGM with the Hunter x Hunter characters promises an exciting gaming experience that is worth looking forward to for fans of both.

Owner of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher Games Not Interested in Being Acquired

CD Projekt Red, a Polish game studio known for its work Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher, has confirmed that it is not interested in being acquired. This statement came directly from the mouth of the CEO, Adam KiciƄski.

“We have a clear position, supported by the regulations contained in the law. We are not interested in being included in a larger entity,” said Adam in an interview with Parkiet, reported by Game Station, Tuesday (9/1/2024).

Adam admitted that his company had worked so hard to get to where it is today. He is also very confident that CD Projekt Red can become an even bigger and stronger game studio in the future.

To make this big dream come true, it was said that they certainly have a cool strategy. However, Adam did not explain in detail regarding future programs.

“We have ambitious plans and we are passionate about what we do. We value independence,” he added.

Likewise, Adam said that he currently has no plans to acquire anything. However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t open to ideas to accelerate the company’s growth.

CD Projeck Red is angry because they were asked to acquire Cyberpunk 2077

“But we are not interested in purchases that only aim to incorporate the acquired companies into our group and consolidate their financial results. We do not see the value in them,” he stressed.

Even though he doesn’t want to be taken over by another party, Adam stated that the company’s finances are still safe. He said the strategy implemented had been well calculated.

He is very confident that CD Projekt Red can survive with the funds it currently has. With confidence, Adam also said that his game studio does not need to look for additional funding sources.

But it is still unknown whether any video game giant has approached him or not. Whether it’s PlayStation or Xbox, Adam didn’t explain. It will be interesting to wait for their progress, considering that they are also working on several new games.

Indonesia Dominates Southeast Asia, Most Games Released on Steam

It’s really cool, Indonesia dominates Southeast Asia, as the country with the most games released on Steam. So far, there have been 256 titles that have visited the platform made by Valve.

Quoted by GameStation from X/Twitter Virtual SEAsia, Thursday (11/1/2024), Indonesia has always filled this top position over the past few years. If you look at the brief data shared by Kris Antoni, Founder and CEO of Toge Productions, it turns out that since 2019 local games in Indonesia have been leading.

Even the number of games launched each year has quite a difference, when compared to countries in Southeast Asia. The countries in question are Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Brunei.

Continuing, in second place is Thailand which is experiencing rapid growth. They managed to catch up with Singapore, which usually overshadows Indonesia every year, regarding the release of games on Steam.

A total of 158 indie games have been released in Thailand. Meanwhile, Singapore is in third place with a total of 134 games they have presented.

The following is a detailed ranking of countries in Southeast Asia whose games are released on Steam:

1.Indonesia – 256 games

2.Thailand – 158 games

3.Singapore – 134 games

4.Philippines – 92 games

5.Malaysia – 80 games

6.Vietnam – 40 games

7.Brunei – 7 games

8.Myanmar – 5 games

Unfortunately, Virtual SEA does not provide information about Indonesia’s ranking outside Southeast Asia. Maybe because their focus is only on collecting data on indie games in this region.

Even so, of course this is proof that the gaming industry in the country is growing. Plus various achievements that have been obtained by local game studios.

In 2023, local games entitled A Space for the Unbound by Mojiken, Rendezvous by Pendopo Creations, and Unplug by Goldlime Studios won awards at Level Up KL.

For A Space for the Unbound, it successfully won the Best Story Telling title. Unplug won in the Audience Choice Award category. Lastly, Rendezvous won two awards at once, namely the Grand Jury Award and Best Visual Art categories.

If you are curious about what Indonesian games are on Steam, you can visit this link: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/25278687-Virtual-SEA-Games-from-Southea. Virtual SEA has collected it into several parts.

Ouch, Game Engine Unity Company Will Lay Off 1,800 Employees

The wave of layoffs in the gaming industry continues. This time the sad news came again from Unity.

The game engine company will reportedly send home 1,800 of its workers. That number is around 25 percent of its total employees, quoted by Game Station from Reuters, Wednesday (10/1/2023).

This is the largest layoff in history that Unity has ever experienced. They hope that the dismissal process can be completed by the end of March 2024.

“We are reducing the number of things we do to focus on our core business and drive long-term success and profitability,” interim CEO Jim Whitehurst wrote in an internal memo sent to all employees on January 8.

But here Whitehurst does not provide specific details regarding the structural changes that will occur in Unity. Only a company spokesperson confirmed that there will indeed be updates in the future.

Yes, Whitehurst is the new CEO of Unity, after the previous John Ricetello decided to resign. This was done after the new policy issue which was protested by many game developers around the world.

The root of the problem lies in the new payment scheme which uses a pay per download system. In this scheme, Unity will charge fees for using the game engine based on the number of game installations, and it is said that this concept will be implemented on January 1, 2024.

As additional information, this is the fourth round of layoffs carried out by the company. More than 1,100 people were laid off in 2023, preceded by at least 200 layoffs in June 2022.

These latest layoffs continue a bad trend in the video game industry, which saw around six thousand jobs lost by 2023. It doesn’t look like things will get any better in 2024.

25 New Games Released in January 2024, There is Tekken 8

The beginning of 2024 opened with various new games released by developers. Starting from Ubisoft, Bandai Namco to Naughty Dog. The game genres released earlier this year are also very diverse.

This makes competition between games increasingly fierce in the market. However, each game is thought to have its own fans.

Here Game Station presents 25 games with 3 exciting games including The Last of Us Part II Remastered and Tekken 8.

The Last of Us II Remastered

This game made by Naughty Dog is a re-launched game because the initial version of this game was released in 2020. As a re-launched game (remastered), the developer provided various improvements such as increased 4K resolution in Fidelity mode and Performance mode.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

This game is a sequel game to ‘Yakuza: Like a Dragon’ which was released in 2020. In this game, players can play two characters from the prequel game. Players who have finished ‘Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name’ are very suitable to play this game.

Tekken 8

Tekken 8 is the most awaited game because Tekken 7 was last released in 2015. This game from Bandai Namco Studios will be released with various new characters and smoother graphics. This is because Tekken 8 was developed using

Tekken 8’s storyline is also new and has a different fighting style. In fact, there are characters who are equipped with Mix Martial Arts (MMA) abilities.

More Game Revenue, Tencent is ahead of Sony and Microsoft

Recently, a study revealed that Tencent outperformed large companies such as Sony, Apple, Microsoft and Google in terms of revenue in the gaming industry. They occupy first position, with much more income.

This data was released by Newzoo, which collected sales information from each well-known game publisher during the first half of 2023. Compiled by Game Station from its official website, Monday (27/11/2023), they then compared it with the 2022 report.

It can be seen that here Sony, Apple and Microsoft have experienced an increase this year compared to before. But that’s not enough to overthrow Tencent, which has twice the revenue as them.

Referring to data revealed by Newzoo, Sony experienced growth of 8.7%. That way, game revenue in the first half of 2023 could reach USD 8 billion or around IDR 124.4 trillion.

Then Apple is in third place, because it was able to generate USD 6.9 billion or around Rp. 107.3 trillion. Meanwhile, Microsoft grew 3.5% compared to the first semester of 2022, so that previously the figure was USD 5.88 billion or around IDR 91.4 trillion, to USD 6 billion or around IDR 93.3 trillion.

As has been said, even though its income is very large and increasing, it is not yet able to compete with Tencent. This video game giant has more fantastic income.

Even though the numbers have fallen, this is still too much and difficult to overcome. They were recorded as earning USD 15.4 billion or around IDR 239.5 trillion during the half term of 2023.

The following are the 10 largest gaming companies that will have large revenues during the first semester of 2023:

1.Tencent – USD 15.4 billion or around IDR 239.5 trillion

2.Sony – USD 8 billion or around IDR 124.4 trillion

3.Apple – USD 6.9 billion or around IDR 107.3 trillion

4.Microsoft – USD 6 billion or around IDR 93.3 trillion

5.NetEase Games – USD 5 billion or around IDR 77.7 trillion

6.Google – USD 5 billion or around IDR 77.7 trillion

7.Activision Blizzard – USD 4.4 billion or around IDR 68.4 trillion

8.Electronic Arts – USD 3.8 billion or around IDR 59.1 trillion

9.Nintendo – USD 3.1 billion or around IDR 48.2 trillion

10.T2 – USD 2.4 billion or around IDR 37.3 trillion

From these values, it can be seen that Microsoft has a big chance to take second place. This is because they have acquired Activision Blizzard.

So Activision’s joining has an impact on the flow of funds coming into Microsoft from the gaming sector. This is because there are many games owned by Activision, which will soon be able to be enjoyed by Xbox gamers and Game Pass members.
